Irresistible Grace
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
God's regenerative grace is efficacious inasmuch as it
brings about salvation in those to whom it is directed.
All those for whom Christ died are those in whom the
Holy Spirit works regeneration, and thisworking of the
Holy Spirit's is irresistible, that is, no human being
who is engaged by the Holy Spirit rejects His working
since, with a new nature, their highest desire is to
turn to Christ in faith.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grace is not like a box of candy that you can send back
if you don't want it. Grace is divine favor, an attitude
of God's own heart. We cannot stop him from loving us,
if he chooses to do so. Nor can we stop him from giving
us blessings of salvation: regeneration, justification,
adoption, sanctification, glorification. His purpose in
us will certainly be fulfilled, Phil. 1:6, Eph. 1:11.

A Doctrinal Study: The Decrees of God by James P.
Boyce
Before the creation of the world in timeless eternity,
God elected particular persons to eternal life. He
already knew and determined to whom He would apply the
benefits of the atonement (2Tim.1:9;
Acts 13:48;
John 17:9;
Titus 1:2;
John 6:37-39 ). This choice was not based on the
fact that God knew which persons would believe of their
own free will, for there is no person which fits
that description. This decision was based upon
God's sovereign good pleasure alone. (Eph.1:3-6)
A
Simple Explanation of Monergism
by John Hendryx
Monergism simply means that it is God who gives ears to
hear and eyes to see. It is God alone who gives
illumination and understanding of His word that we might
believe; It is God who raises us from the dead, who
circumcises the heart; unplugs our ears; It is God alone
who can give us a new sense that we may, at last, have
the moral capacity to behold His beauty and unsurpassed
excellency. "In theology, [monergism is] the doctrine
that the Holy Spirit is the only efficient agent in
regeneration [the new birth] - that the human will
possesses no inclination to holiness until regenerated
[born again], and therefore cannot cooperate in
regeneration."
