INTRODUCTION One of the most dramatic ways to learn, and better understand History, and the Mighty works of God in Providence, is to study the original documents written by the men who witnessed and were involved in the events first-hand. Primary Source documents, as they are called, bring to life the reality of both the circumstances of the particular historical events, as well as the ideas, passions and struggles of the men who lived through them. There is nothing more intense than to read a first hand account of the great moments which God has Divinely orchestrated for the furtherance of His Kingdom. These documents have been preserved for our learning. They hold for us a vast array of knowledge, and can assist us mightily in developing a better understanding of the way God works throughout time, in various realms, and with diverse cultures. These source documents also lead us into a clearer understanding of the original intent of the writer, as well as the general consensus of the people of that particular time. When these documents are carefully read and compared with one another, we often find amazing similarities. Even when hundreds of years and hundreds of miles separate the writings, many of them are remarkably harmonious. This should not surprise us, however, since history was well researched by the men who have gone before us. They did not suffer from historical amnesia or Scriptural stupidity like many of the men and women of today. They were scholars and researchers - from the least of them to the greatest. In the past, it was reading which made men complete, while writing made them exact. They were both readers and writers. They knew how to speak, and to construct a grammatically correct sentence. They were also men of faith, wisdom and sobriety. They addressed many issues, yet the themes were always the same. Liberty, justice, and a love toward God dominated the majority of these writings. The very same topics that are hotly debated today were discussed at length in ages past. Truely, there is nothing new under the Sun. We would do well to learn how the men and women of history dealt with these extremely important issues. Only those who know the past, can have a peaceful and steadfast hope for the future.

How to use this Section Each document is placed within the Century in
which it was written. The sequence of history is God-ordained. Therefore, we need to have both a general overview of what happened, as well as when it happened. Each historical portion of ITR's Site structured and coordinated to work together. The history of the world needs to be viewed along with the documents written during its respective era. Since Religion and Faith was always a strong determining factor in world events, the Creeds and Confessions of the Church, need to be read with a view to the circumstances and events surrounding them in history. Likewise, Reformation history cannot be understood in a vacuum either, but must be looked at holistically, in light of what has transpired before. History will prove that Theology, law, politics, economics and society are all intimately interrelated and cannot be compartmentalized. During the coming weeks, The Institute for Theonomic Reformation will bring you some of the most important Primary source Documents, from all over the world and from every time period. When the documents are lengthy, we will provide you with alternative sources and links. Where commentary is needed, we will provide that as well. Our special section on U.S. Documents and quotations, will enable you to search important U.S. history more specifically. Our prayer is that these important, life changing, documents will assist you in grasping more fully the nature of God's Sovereign orchestration of events in time and in history. Soli Deo Gloria.
